I talked with my mom yesterday about venue stuff. She was being very helpful. Josh and I are interested in doing a barn wedding or something similar. We want it to be outdoors, and we like the rustic, vintagey feel a lot of the pictures we have been seeing look like.

My cousin is offering us a park for free, which would be great, but we don’t want to rush into it without seeing it first.

My mom was telling me to hurry and view these places and stuff but she didn’t give me a budget yet and when I asked she said her and my dad had to talk about it first. Which makes sense, they should, but also stop rushing me to start officially looking at things when I don’t know the actual budget yet.

Anyone have any budget advice? How much did you spend on your wedding?

Well, I went home for the weekend and on Sunday, Josh was going to come up to where my family lives and we were going to go to the Claddagh Irish Pub for our 18 month anniversary dinner (because our 18 month anniversary falls on Mother’s Day this year). We got all dressed up, and went out. But we drove back home separately. When we got to our apartment, he told me left his phone in his car and asked me to get it. It was really dark out and I was freaked out so I pretty much ran from the car to the apartment.

When I opened the apartment door, there was a trail of rose petals leading up the stairs, across the living room and to his bedroom. I was really surprised and taken off guard so I kept walking and he was in his bedroom, rose petals everywhere, candles everywhere, white christmas lights hanging from the ceiling, our song (Can’t Help Falling in Love With You by Elvis) was playing on vinyl in the back ground and there he stood, with the ring. He gave this lovely speech about how it didn’t take long for him to realize he was in love with me, but he never expected to keep on falling in love with me over and over again. And he popped the question, I said yes and now we’re engaged! I was so surprised that I didn’t really start reacting until I called my family and I started crying.

It was a really sweet and private proposal and it felt very appropriate.
